Reach Out and Read®

WFMC participates in the Reach out and Read® program, which aims to promote early literacy and school readiness for pediatric patients. Volunteers are stationed in the waiting rooms and read books aloud to children while waiting to see their provider. During well-child checks, our providers advise parents to read aloud to their children, provide helpful tips to encourage early literacy, and provide age and language appropriate books for children between the ages of zero and five years at each well child appointment. Reach out and Read® also helps children become more comfortable with well-child checks and incorporates literacy promotion into pediatric primary care.

We are always looking for more volunteers to read to children, if you would be interested in volunteering, please go to our volunteer page and fill-out an application, or call our volunteer coordinator at (503) 585-6388! If you have books to donate, please go to our donation page or call our volunteer coordinator!
