Paul Balmer, M.D.

One of WFMC’s founding physicians, Dr. Balmer has practiced quality family medicine in the Salem community for many years. Dr. Balmer also leads Centering Pregnancy® groups, visits patients who have been hospitalized at Salem Hospital, and serves on the Salem Hospital Medical Staff Quality Committee.


Denise Busch, FNP, PMHNP

Denise joined the WFMC family in 2010. She cares for English and Spanish-speaking patients of all ages. Prior to graduating from the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at OHSU in June 2010, she worked for 15 years as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. In addition to seeing patients as a Family Nurse Practitioner, she helps oversee the mental health programs at WFMC.

Sheryl Combs, PNP, PMHNP

Sheryl is a pediatric nurse practitioner with a background in pediatric mental health. She joined WFMC in the fall of 2012. Previously, Sheryl worked at a summer camp for chronically ill children.

Patricia Jimenez Mendez, M.D.

Dr. Jimenez Mendez joined WFMC in the summer of 2012. She specializes in Internal Medicine, caring for patients 17 years and older. Before coming to WFMC, she worked as primary care physician in Rhode Island for 3 years. Dr. Jimenez Mendez is fluent in Spanish.


Salvador Ortega, M.D.

Dr. Ortega is one of WFMC’s founding physicians. He has worked in the Salem community for over 15 years, providing a wide range of services to the under-served populations in the area. He currently leads Centering Pregnancy® group in Spanish and spends time visiting his patients who are receiving in-patient care at Salem Hospital.


Joanna Picchi, FNP, PNP

Joanna primarily works at Luckiamute Clinic, WFMC’s second location in Falls City. One day a week however, she sees patients at WFMC’s main site in Salem. She has worked with WFMC for over 18 years, providing quality care to English and Spanish speaking families in the area.

John Rollings, MD

Stephanie Schmidt, FNP

Stephanie has served WFMC’s patients since 1998. She sees a wide range of patients, both English and Spanish speaking. Stephanie has worked as a mother-baby nurse and as a La Leche League leader, which has led her to have a special interest in promoting breast feeding.

Nitikul Solomon, M.D., FAAP, ABIHM, MSHA

Dr. Solomon, a licensed pediatrician who has specialized in pediatric gastroenterology, joined the WFMC team in 2010. She came to us from Naturalways Pediatrics, a holistic pediatric practice, and is certified by the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine.

Robert Steele, M.D.

Dr. Steele is one of the founders of WFMC and acting CEO. He specializes in Internal medicine, though currently he focuses more on the administrative aspects of the clinic. Dr. Steele has provided medical care to the under-served populations of Salem for over 15 years and continues to be a strong public advocate for the patients we serve.


Kayla Street, PA-C, MPH

WFMC welcomed Kayla in 2011. She graduated from George Washington University in August 2011 with a dual degree (Physician Assistant degree with a Masters in Global Health). Previously, Kayla has spent a few years serving as a Peace Corps’ Health Education Volunteer in Albania. She provides care to patients of all ages and speaks Spanish.


Alison Takeo, FNP

Alison joined WFMC in the summer of 2011. She has 20 years of experience working as a nurse practitioner in various settings. Previously, Alison worked at Marion County Health Department where she focused on prenatal care, STD services, and school based health centers. At WFMC, she facilitates Spanish Centering Pregnancy® groups.

Anne Wild, M.D.

Dr. Wild has worked at WFMC since the clinic’s beginning in 1995. Dr. Wild is fluent in French and Spanish. She currently facilitates Centering Pregnancy® groups in Spanish, while continuing to serve a wide-range of family practice patients.

Dr. Lam

 Anna Lam, D.O.

Dr. Lam is the newest provider to join WFMC. She received her Bachelor of Science in biology from UCLA and went on to become a Doctor of Osteopathy after graduating from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. With 9 years of experience as a pediatrician in Chicago and most recently at Randall’s Children’s Hospital in Portland, Dr. Lam has a wide variety of skills to best care for her patients. She sees patients from birth to 18 years of age, and speaks Cantonese and Spanish.
